I've spent some time at the diesel truck forums and people are talking about adding radiators with additional cores, higher power water pumps and coolant filters to deal with the Evan's coolant. When you just use Evan's with no water, how much cooling are you loosing in the system? The other issue is that the best coolant is distilled water. That make sense, but quantifying it would be hard to do. The criticisms I have heard elsewhere are that the viscocity is slightly thicker which means the water pump needs to work harder and coolant does not circulate at the same rate. So, why doesn't Mercedes, or BMW, or any car manufacturer use/recommend this stuff (yet)? Mercedes could sell their coolant for whatever they want. The link does come from a competitor, but who else would put that type of resources into substantiating the company's claims. Right now, I have 110K miles on it and I fully expect it to go up to 400K+ without any major problems if I take care of it. My main concern is to do what is best for my engine. I was the PMer here and I'm interested about running Evan's as well. I doubt it is 'extremely flammable', though it could burn as well as sugar or vegetable oil, so if those scare you run away. Evan's is propylene glycol, which is a food additive. They compare the flammability and slipperiness to pure water, not to normal 50/50 glycol. The limit for heat transfer is usually the radiator to air interface, not the coolant flow, unless corrosion blocks the flow, which Evan's coolant mitigates. My MS thesis was in heat transfer, so easy to tell the writer is not an engineer. The equation they give is correct, but has nothing to do with the 2nd Law. Indeed, some uneducated car hobbyists spread mis-information that coolant could 'flow too fast to cool well'. They are correct that lower flow rates give less heat transfer. Water viscosity is negligible in determining the torque on the water pump, so 4x viscosity is still pretty negligible. That could warp the aluminum head and melt the nylon intake manifold on the the LS engine they say they were testing, and these temperatures were also seen using their water/norosion coolant. Cylinder head temperatures of 650-980 F sound crazy, so no idea how they were testing. They confuse specific heat with conductivity. The heat transfer ability limits where the T-stat goes wide open. The thermostat controls the temperature, so unless wide open, the coolant should run close to the designed 85 C set-point. It makes no sense that the head would run 115 F hotter. As you drive, any remaining water should boil off, if you leave the cap loose. Clearing out the heater core and radiator is harder, but air and ethanol worked for me (pulsed air with my thumb on outlet tube). I ran the engine for short intervals without coolant to heat up the block and drive off any residual water.

I used ethanol to flush water from crevices. I easily blew air thru the block by removing the block drain and coolant hoses. No need to remove core plugs (don't recall our diesels have them). How would that help remove water? Perhaps they mean one must remove the head to get all water out. Most statements are silly or specious, like the suggestion to dismantle the engine first before installing Evan's. I read the link, but don't put much stock in it since from a competitor. The coolant is apparently also extremely flammable.' I think the cost and effort to replace the heater core makes it worthwhile, plus you never have to change the coolant. In another post (not mine), I mentioned that I installed Evan's coolant in my 300D, mainly to stop corrosion.
